Omnidirectional cameras have advanced the field of 360-degree photography substantially. While panoramic photography similar to that produced by omnidirectional cameras was technically possible before, it required the use of advanced techniques in post-production to piece together multiple images into one cohesive unit, thereby driving up expenses.
