Sandmeyer Steel - Responsive Website Design with Video
Sandmeyer Steel puts its best face forward with a powerful search engine optimized website featuring a responsive website design by DDA.
Sandmeyer Steel has had a relationship with Dynamic Digital Advertising for years and has completed a variety of projects, from videos to websites and even print materials. DDA had previously designed and developed their website in 2005, eventually adding tons of keyword-rich search engine optimization copywriting post launch, helping to substantially strengthen the website's ranking on the major search engines. However, some time has passed and so has Google’s ever-changing requirements for sites to maintain high rankings. The opportunity came for Sandmeyer to overhaul their website, and they knew that DDA was the right place to go, given their prior experiences. Sandmeyer wanted a website that was state of the art, highly interactive, easy to use, and responsive, so that it will fit all devices and all screen sizes. This being one of the new guidelines that Google uses when determining search rankings.
Sandmeyer knew that they wanted a newly designed website, but didn’t know in what direction to go. After some detailed discussions, DDA proposed a redesigned and redeveloped responsive website that would feature modern elements and high quality visuals including banner images to tell the story to those with a limited attention span. Of course the website would also be responsive in order to provide an optimal viewing experience on any device including smartphones and tablets.
The idea of a corporate overview video was also mentioned by DDA. Not only would it contribute to the website’s visual appeal, but it would also introduce its services, facilities, and extensive inventory to all viewers. DDA recommended using our aerial drone and 360° camera to create videos that are state-of-the-art, all while telling the Sandmeyer capabilities story.
DDA’s team of graphic designers worked with Sandmeyer to create the look and feel that they desired. The home page features a rotating banner with bold imagery and text, immediately giving users an overview on Sandmeyer’s capabilities and history. DDA helped develop the taglines featured within each section of the home page, clearly stating how Sandmeyer stocks, creates, and delivers their products accurately and efficiently every time. A parallax effect was implemented on the homepage images, causing the images to move as the user scrolls down the page.
The new Sandmeyer site is responsive, allowing visitors to view it on virtually any device, from desktops to smartphones to tablets. Menus, tables, and text adjust depending on what device is used, providing the ideal user experience.
DDA’s programming team setup a dynamic News and Events section, which allows Sandmeyer to update this section as they wish. They are already accustomed to updating the blog section of their old site in a similar fashion. DDA also recreated their Request a Quote form, which includes many dropdowns for users to select the exact product specifications they need.
During the project, DDA went on-site to Sandmeyer’s facilities to shoot footage of their inventory and processing equipment using their aerial drone and 360° camera. The two videos created using aerial drone footage are integrated on the home page. Varying speed allows the viewer to see as much of Sandmeyer’s vast inventory and processing facility as possible in a short amount of time, while keeping the pace and experience energized. Also, using the aerial drone to see above tall stacks of plate and safety walls gives viewers a whole new perspective. The four 360° interactive videos are incorporated on a capabilities page, allowing viewers to control how they view processing equipment. Viewers can either scroll through the video using their finger or move around their device to look up, down, and every which way.
Sandmeyer Steel’s new website launched in the beginning of 2016, featuring eye-catching components and detailed information about their wide array of steel plate inventory and processing capabilities.
