Moxtek introduces its new ICE Cube™ polarizing beamsplitter with this elegant product video featuring 3D animation by DDA.
Moxtek needed to communicate the advantages of their exciting new polarizing beamsplitters, the wire-grid PBS and their ICE Cube™, for an upcoming tradeshow. The ICE Cube™ is a unique combination of the PBS plate and two glass prisms which can be adjusted to provide a display system optimized for High Index, Contrast or Efficiency. DDA had already produced a successful trade show video with 3D animation earlier in 2012, so Moxtek asked DDA to produce a longer video under a demanding deadline that could fully communicate the unique features of this innovative technology, as well as the advantages it offered over rival products’ competing technology. Using the same video style with the same voice-over talent to establish continuity, DDA created an updated and extended promotional piece to provide even more product detail through additional 3D animation.
To clearly understand the superiority of Moxtek's solutions for polarized beamsplitting, several important details for the animation were required. First, it was important to show that the two prisms worked together for fine tuning the beamsplitter into a specifically optimized display. The prisms are placed in an asymmetrical arrangement to allow for this minute adjustment, and DDA needed to provide a microscopic zoom-in view and a 2D animated insert of the arrangement and the composition of the wire grid PBS plate to achieve the desired effect. A side-by-side comparison of competing technology and its limits relative to Moxtek's innovative new ICE Cube™ system was needed to reinforce the advantages of the new technology, and real world examples of products that could benefit from using the ICE Cube™ system served to inspire potential clients to adopt it into their products.
This is where DDA’s experience and range of multimedia production capabilities make the difference. To ensure timely delivery for the upcoming trade show, DDA began working on the video immediately following client approval. DDA modernized the aesthetics and increased its visual impact, while explaining the products in further detail. Using a combination of client-provided imagery and new 2D and 3D animations, DDA was able to turn around a polished and professional series of new promotional videos over a five-week timeline.
The centerpiece of the video featured three new 3D animation segments, one that demonstrated the interaction of the PBS wire plate with the two prisms, and two others showing the PBS Plate and the ICE Cube in a working light engine. By showing the actual light path through the light engines equipped with the Moxtek products, DDA was able to communicate the incidence of the white light entering into the polarizing beamsplitters and the lush, colorful light projecting out of the light engines in vivid and compelling detail.
DDA also animated the ICE Cube over an image of a head-mounted display (HMD) to demonstrate its application in products such as Google™ Glass. To indicate the suitability of these applications with Motex’s new wire-grid PBS and ICE Cube™ technology, the final segment showed a Head’s-Up Display (HUD) in the cockpit of an airplane.
DDA's extensive and detailed work on the videos was so efficient that there was room in the budget to create two additional, re-edited versions of the video for different marketing purposes. While Moxtek had originally contracted DDA for one video, Moxtek had all three different versions in hand as they left for their trade show.
With a full-length video, a short, and a teaser, Moxtek now has a complete set of flexible video presentation material with great visual impact to demonstrate their advanced polarized beamsplitting technologies. The videos were very well received by Moxtek, and DDA’s ability to roll all of the company’s objectives into a complete package that inspires new clients to employ this exciting new technology will provide Moxtek with continued marketing value.
